Sports Betting in Deadwood
Deadwood is the only city in South Dakota where commercial sports betting is legal. Located in the Black Hills about 60 miles from Mt. Rushmore on scenic Highway 385, this Old West gold-rush town has been home to limited-stakes gaming since 1989 and accepted SD's first legal sports wager on September 9, 2021.
The 5 Sportsbook Casinos
Every commercial sportsbook in South Dakota is inside Deadwood city limits. Most are clustered along Main Street within walking distance of each other.

Why Deadwood?
When South Dakota voters approved Constitutional Amendment B in November 2020 with 58.5% support, the amendment specifically authorized sports wagering "within the city limits of Deadwood." This builds on a 1989 amendment that originally legalized limited-stakes gaming in the town as a way to fund historic preservation.
The result: every legal commercial sportsbook in SD is in one small Black Hills town. Even if SJR 504 passes in November 2026 and statewide mobile betting becomes legal, the law would still require operators to host servers physically in Deadwood and partner with a Deadwood casino.

Mobile Betting in Deadwood
BetMGM has a mobile app that works only while you are physically inside Tin Lizzie Gaming Resort or Cadillac Jack's Gaming Resort. The app is geo-fenced and stops working the moment you step off the property. This is currently the only "mobile" betting option in South Dakota.
