Sports Betting in Pierre

Pierre is South Dakota's state capital and sits roughly in the geographic center of the state on the Missouri River. For sports bettors, Pierre is awkwardly placed — Deadwood is about 3 hours west, and the closest tribal options (Lode Star, Golden Buffalo) don't offer sportsbooks. Pierre bettors have to decide between a long drive west or out-of-state options.

Our Recommendation for Pierre

Pierre is the least convenient SD city for sports betting. The realistic options are: (1) make a planned Deadwood trip (3 hours each way), (2) play DraftKings Fantasy or FanDuel Fantasy from home — both are legal in SD with 18+ minimum, or (3) wait for SJR 504 to potentially legalize statewide mobile betting in November 2026. Pierre lawmakers will play a key role in whether that ballot measure passes.

Daily Fantasy Sports

Both DraftKings Fantasy and FanDuel Fantasy are legal in Pierre and across all of South Dakota. Minimum age is 18+ (vs 21+ for sportsbooks), no physical-presence requirement, and full app access. This is the easiest "play for money on sports" option in SD today.

Notes

As the state capital, Pierre is where the SD Legislature and Governor's office debate sports betting expansion. Senate Joint Resolution 504 was introduced here in January 2026 and is the most likely path to statewide mobile betting.
